Welcome to Rutgers University

As you begin your new career, may I be among the first to welcome you to Rutgers University. With historical roots that can be traced back before the American Revolution and with a mandate as the officially-sanctioned State University of New Jersey, Rutgers has both history and prestige.

These are very exciting times for Rutgers. With the recent integration of the former University of Medicine and Dentistry (UMDNJ, now part of Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences Ė RBHS), Rutgers has enhanced the educational opportunities available to our students, and has gone from 56th in the nation in terms of grant-earning potential to 22nd among national research universities. This new ranking will allow us to better compete for medical research grants and other grants to help fund the innovative and groundbreaking research being conducted on Rutgers Universityís campuses throughout the State.

Our recent induction into the Big Ten Conference will elevate Rutgersí name on the national stage, while the concurrent inclusion in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) will give our academic professionals an opportunity to partner with their peers at research universities around the country and to promote academic excellence everywhere.

Rutgers University already boasts some of the top experts in the nation on some of the most important issues affecting all of humanity. Whether itís expanding our understanding of the universe around us, or developing breakthroughs in medicine or technology, or shaping the minds and perspectives of the next generation of great leaders, itís all happening at Rutgers right now!

We hope that your experience with the University is a positive one, and we look forward to your many contributions to our proud institution of higher education as we move forward.
